Join the Wessex Military History Group for their ONLINE talk on ‘Close air support in Italy in WW2’ By Vic Flintham
Vic Flintham is a published author of several military history books, articles and references specialising in the history of the RAF. This talk will discuss how close air support for the troops fighting on the ground evolved, more often than not driven by innovation at the operational level rather than by direction from the higher chain of command. In Italy the Allied air forces mounted one of the longest and most extensive interdiction programmes of the War. At Dunkirk the cry from the Army was ‘where is the RAF?’…..lessons were learned and this enabled the RAF to make a major contribution to the Allied victory in the Mediterranean.
